Text mode: type your message, pick a font size, color, opacity, and rotation. Image mode: drop a PNG (transparency preserved) or JPG, then size it as a percentage of the page width.

Center, diagonal across the page, top, bottom, or tiled (repeats across the page on a grid). The same watermark is drawn on every page.

Apply and download
Dropvert composites the watermark into each page using pdf-lib's drawText or drawImage with your chosen opacity. The output is a regular PDF — opens in any reader.

- Can the watermark be removed by the recipient?
- A determined attacker can always remove watermarks from PDF (it's not encryption). Dropvert's watermarks are visible and permanent in the rendered output, but anyone with PDF editing skills can extract or hide them. If the goal is legal protection rather than visual deterrent, use a digital signature instead.
- What's the difference between Diagonal and Tiled?
- Diagonal places one watermark across the center of each page at the rotation angle you set — best for big "CONFIDENTIAL"-style stamps. Tiled repeats the watermark on a 3×4 grid covering the full page — best for protecting photos or designs against unauthorized reuse.
- Does the watermark increase file size much?
- Text watermarks add almost nothing — text is tiny in PDF. Image watermarks add the embedded image once, then reference it on each page; on a 100-page PDF that's about the cost of one image, not 100.
- Can I use a transparent PNG?
- Yes — PNG transparency is preserved through pdf-lib's embedPng. The opacity slider multiplies on top, so a 50% opaque PNG at 50% slider becomes 25% effective opacity.
- Does it work on encrypted PDFs?
- Dropvert tries to load encrypted PDFs in permissive mode. If the file requires a password to open, watermarking fails — unlock the PDF first with a tool you trust and try again.
- Are my files uploaded anywhere?
- No. The entire watermarking process runs in your browser via pdf-lib. The PDF and the watermark image (if used) never leave your device.
