Why use Dropvert
Local-first, 95+ formats, free, honest
Why use Dropvert
Local-first, 95+ formats, free, honest
- Local-first. Most conversions run inside your browser via WebAssembly — no upload, no waiting on a server queue, no logs of your files on someone else's infrastructure.
- 95+ formats. Images, documents, video, audio, data formats, ebooks, fonts — all under one roof, with the right defaults out of the box.
- Tools that pair. Convert and compress in one step. Remove a background and resize for Instagram. OCR a PDF and download the text. The tools share state so you don't repeat yourself.
- Free and honest. Conversions are free. The Pro tier exists for things that genuinely cost money to provide (AI credits, long share-links, large files, API access) — not for things that should have been free in the first place.
- Built to grow. Missing a format or a tool you use? Email hello@dropvert.com — that's how the catalog grows.

Frequently asked questions
7 common questions about Dropvert
Frequently asked questions
7 common questions about Dropvert
- Is Dropvert really free?
- Yes. Browser-based conversions and most tools are free for everyone. We charge for Pro features like an ad-free experience, more monthly credits for AI generators, longer share-link expiry, larger file sizes, and API access. Pricing details on the Pricing page.
- Do my files get uploaded to your servers?
- For most conversions, no — your file stays on your device and the conversion runs in the browser via WebAssembly. Some features need server-side processing (specific document/ebook formats, AI generators, share links) and we say so explicitly when a tool requires it. The local-first default applies whenever it produces the same result.
- How many formats does Dropvert support?
- About 95 formats today across images, documents, video, audio, data formats, ebooks, and fonts. Drop a file and the homepage shows the formats you can convert it to. Visit the Formats page for the full grid.
- Why is Dropvert faster than other online converters?
- Most converters upload your file, queue it on a server, and stream the result back. Dropvert runs the same conversion code (ffmpeg, libvips, pdf.js, ONNX models) compiled to WebAssembly, directly in your browser — so there's no upload, no queue, and no download. The only network you wait on is the conversion library itself, which loads once and is then cached.
- Can I use Dropvert offline?
- Once a tool's WebAssembly modules have loaded once, they're cached in your browser. Subsequent visits to that tool work without a network connection — you can convert files on a plane, on a train, or anywhere your laptop has power. AI generators and server-side conversions need an internet connection by definition.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Free accounts can process files up to 50 MB. Pro lifts that to 2 GB. Some tools (PDF Editor, PDF Optimizer) accept up to 200 MB regardless of tier. Your browser's memory is the practical ceiling on very large files.
- Can I batch process multiple files?
- Yes. Most tools accept up to 20 files at once and bundle the results into a single zip download. Pro removes the batch limit.
